Ned Weir hailed from Sydney St west in Belfast and he started off with Brantwood FC (Junior or intermediate side back then i believe), he left these in 1924/1925 (aprox) for a move to Westend FC (Junior league side), which he captained until then trying out for Belfast Celtic in 1926 with success. His career spanned until late 1929 and his nickname within footy circles was "Header Weir", before leaving the team after a disagreement with the management. He then went on to play spells with Coleraine and Dundalk the durations are unsure.

A page from Mark Tuohy's Belfast Celtic showing Ned in the squad during Celtics Glory years or "Magical seasons" as they became known in which they lost only 1 out of 74 competitive matches.
