The wee interview! 09/09/08
Sharon Gilfillan, Invicta NISC's Treasurer, conducts an interview with David Healy on the Eve of the NI V Czech Republic game at Windsor Park.
I'd spoken to Robert, Healy's agent, a few times and how amazed was I after sending him a good luck text to pass on to David and the boys that he replied and said that he'd see David about doing an interview. That was about 10.00 this morning........................................
2.50pm - Inbetween cooking dinner and putting the rubbish out, my mobile rings.......OMG, yes you've guessed it, it's Robert with the wee man himself all the way from Our Wee Country.
He asked 'Did I want to speak to David?'. Did I !!!!!, of course I did, what sensible NI fanatic wouldn't??. It was then that I realised the magnitude of what was happening and words left me, yes believe it or not, for the first time in my life I was speachless....David Healy was on the phone for ME!!!
Anyway I did manage to compose myself enough to speak to him, just, and here's how it went....or the bits that i can remember!!!!!
----------------------------------------------------
Here's me till him..
"David are you looking forward to the match against the Czech's tomorrow?"
Here's him till me..
"Yes, obviously we're still deeply disappointed as a team about the Slovakia game. We didn't put enough in to win the game and had a few good chances that didn't go our way. Also a few bad decisions were made on the afternoon.
We have to pick ourselves up now and look forward, hopefully get the result we want tomorrow night.
You get so much bad publicity from the press when you lose and it obviously really disheartens you."
Me..
"David, the real supporters back you up through the win's and losses. Everyone hits bad patches. The Czech game is at home and you'll have the support of the real fans at Windsor behind you."
David..
"It's always great to play at Windsor. The supporters are great and we hope we won't disappoint them. We have to knuckle down now and do the job at hand."
Me..
"How are you settling in at Sunderland?"
David..
"Obviously, great to be be at such a big club and really happy about the move. Just looking forward to getting the these couple of internationals played and out of the way and getting back to club football, finding my feet and getting on with my career at Sunderland."
Me..
"I'd just like to say good luck from all at Invicta NISC. We'll be cheering you on all the way. We're all behind you.
I'm not able to make it to Windsor Park but i'll be screaming at the telly!
I really appreciate you taking time out to call, i know you're a busy man."
And in Davids own words " it's the fans that make the team what it is"
There ended one of the most memorable experiences of my life. He's just such a nice guy
